[Poem-a-Week] Shadow by Carlton Dossou

Like a shadow 
You only appear when the sun shines 
When it rains 
Where do you disappear to? 

Take me back in time 
Back to a time when we were so close 
Rewind the clock to when I was dreaming of being 6ft 
Not having to distance myself 6ft from you 
Truthfully there’s way more distance between us now 
We used to be inseparable 
Like Siamese twins we were attached at the hip 
When did you get surgically removed? 

You were my brother for life 
My brotha from another motha 
Now you’re just a catchy song from 2011 
Cuz you’re just somebody that I used to know 
What happened to us? 

I can never figure that out 
But I hope you doin good 
Still got mad love for you 
That’ll never change 
Hopefully one day 
We can link up, sit back, and reminisce on all the good times we had 
And then hopefully make some more
